Geelong is the 12th largest city in Australia with a population of 263,000 and is in the state of Victoria. It is situated 76 kms (45mi) from the state capital of Melbourne. It is the gateway to the famous scenic route, The Great Ocean Road and close to magnificent beaches. It is situated on Corio Bay where you can find the quirky Waterfront area, famous for its painted Bayside Bollards. Other things to see include the unique Botanic gardens, The National Wool Museum , The antique Carousel at the waterfront and the largest swimming pool in the state. Settled in 1837, you can stroll the heritage architecture or visit the free Art gallery. All of these things are in easy walking distance in the CBD. For indigenous culture, you can visit the Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre and The Jirralinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary is a 20 minute car trip. Surrounding Geelong are sea vistas, with quaint sea towns.
